MOGADISHU — In a profound humanitarian gesture reflecting deep fraternal ties and Qatar’s unwavering commitment to supporting brotherly nations, the Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) announced that the Federal Republic of Somalia is a primary focus of its annual Ramadan campaign, “Your Charity Is a Lasting Asset,” aimed at securing food necessities for thousands of families impacted by climatic and economic crises.
According to the Qatar News Agency (QNA), the QRCS Secretariat emphasized that Somalia holds strategic importance due to the critical humanitarian conditions in the region. Integrated food baskets designed to sustain a family for an entire month have been allocated to ensure vulnerable households can observe the Holy Month with dignity.
QNA reported that the relief intervention in Somalia focuses on distributing Iftar food baskets valued at approximately 385 Qatari Riyals each. This effort is part of a global roadmap targeting over 300,000 individuals in nations facing acute food security challenges.
Within the developmental vision monitored by the Qatar News Agency, Qatari efforts in Somalia extend beyond seasonal aid. They encompass mobilizing support for sustainable projects in healthcare, clean water provision, and sanitation, ensuring the long-term resilience of local communities.
Eng. Ibrahim bin Hashim Al-Sada, Secretary-General of QRCS, told QNA that Somalia remains a cornerstone of QRCS’s international humanitarian map. The society seeks to implement extended educational and housing initiatives aimed at empowering marginalized families and creating sustainable livelihood opportunities.
QNA further noted that the total number of targeted beneficiaries for QRCS’s comprehensive humanitarian and developmental projects throughout the year is approximately 6.7 million people. Somalia is positioned as a top-priority geographical zone to ensure the sustainability of relief impact and transform challenges into stability.
Regarding the integration of local and international efforts, QNA highlighted that QRCS continues its domestic programs in Qatar alongside its international campaigns. This reinforces Qatar’s reputation as a global capital for humanitarian work and a leading platform for initiatives serving humanity everywhere.
These intensive Qatari movements toward Somalia come at a critical time requiring unified international efforts to bridge food security gaps. QRCS’s focus on Somalia is not merely an emergency response but part of a comprehensive humanitarian strategy monitored by the SOHA Research Center to evaluate international partner performance. This ensures that Ramadan aid becomes a vital pillar supporting social stability and achieving sustainability in the most vulnerable regions.
