Interior minister holds talks with UN humanitarian chief

MOGADISHU — The Minister of Interior, Federal Affairs, and Reconciliation of the Federal Government of Somalia, H.E. Ali Yusuf Ali Hosh, held a meeting in Mogadishu with Mr. George Conway, the Deputy Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General, Resident Coordinator, and Humanitarian Coordinator (DSRSG/RC/HC).

During the meeting, the two sides engaged in discussions on key national priorities, including reconciliation efforts, the coordination of humanitarian assistance, and the strengthening of bilateral cooperation between the Somali government and the United Nations system.

The meeting comes at a critical time, as Somalia continues to face a complex humanitarian crisis fueled by recurrent climate shocks, displacement, food insecurity, and protracted conflict. According to recent UN reports, millions of Somalis remain in need of urgent assistance, with nearly 3.8 million internally displaced persons (IDPs), and over 6.9 million people projected to require humanitarian aid throughout 2025.

The leaders emphasized the importance of a unified approach to addressing these challenges, aligning humanitarian interventions with national reconciliation and stabilization efforts, and ensuring durable solutions for displaced populations across the country.
