Saudi support strengthens blood bank services

MOGADISHU — National Blood Bank continued providing medical and humanitarian services to beneficiaries in Mogadishu, serving 214 people during April 2026 with support from the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center.

According to the Saudi Press Agency, the services included supplying blood units and related medical support to patients and healthcare facilities as part of emergency and lifesaving healthcare services.

Statistics showed that males represented 59 percent of the total beneficiaries, while females accounted for 41 percent. Residents made up 94 percent of beneficiaries, whereas internally displaced persons represented 6 percent.

The support forms part of Saudi Arabia’s humanitarian and healthcare initiatives implemented through the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center to strengthen healthcare services and support Somalia’s medical sector.

Officials supervising the project emphasized the importance of sustaining support for healthcare institutions and blood bank services because of their critical role in meeting the needs of hospitals and medical centers, particularly amid the humanitarian and health challenges facing Somalia.

The project also contributes to enhancing the preparedness of medical institutions to respond to emergencies, surgical operations, and various medical cases, while supporting vulnerable patients and displaced communities.

Somalia continues to face significant healthcare challenges due to limited medical resources and increasing demand for treatment services, making humanitarian and health initiatives essential for supporting the national healthcare system and improving access to lifesaving medical care.
