Somalia establishes authority for national army orphans

​MOGADISHU — In a national gesture embodying the highest meanings of loyalty, the Federal Government of Somalia launched the construction of the headquarters for the National Army Orphans Care Authority, coinciding with the 66th anniversary of the army’s establishment. This initiative stands as an official commitment from the state towards families who gave their most precious possessions for the nation’s pride and dignity.

Mogadishu witnessed the foundation stone ceremony for the project, led by H.E. President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, in the presence of H.E. Minister of Defence Ahmed Moallim Fiqi and a select group of top national army commanders, in a scene reflecting the political and military leadership’s appreciation for the heroic role played by Somalia’s martyrs in defending the nation.

The newly formed authority will be responsible for providing an integrated umbrella of care, including educational pathways, social and psychosocial support, and securing basic living requirements, serving as an alternative home that engulfs these orphans with care and helps them proceed in their lives with pride and competence.

The establishment of this edifice is the fruit of the Council of Ministers’ approval, in response to a noble proposal from the Ministry of Defence, embodying a comprehensive government vision aimed at strengthening the social protection system and ensuring that children of fallen soldiers do not feel broken, but find in their state institutions the support and safe refuge.

In his speech during the ceremony, H.E. President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud emphasized that this initiative is dictated by national responsibility and human conscience, noting that the state cannot forget those who gave their lives for it, stating: “Today, we have taken the initiative to stand by the side of the Somali National Army’s orphans, in fulfillment of those who sacrificed so that the nation remains proud and safe.”

​For his part, Minister of Defence H.E. Ahmed Moallim Fiqi expressed his deep optimism regarding this project, looking forward to its swift completion to fulfill its mission, asserting: “We hope this edifice will be completed by next year, to be a sanctuary that embraces the children whom our martyrs have left as a trust in our care, and to provide all means of dignified living for them.”

This edifice, for which Somalia is laying the first stone today, represents a continuous national pulse; it embodies the covenant that the state makes to its heroes that their children will remain under the wings of care and appreciation. This place will remain a testament that the fathers’ sacrifices have blossomed into safety for generations that will grow up carrying the pride of belonging to men who were true to what they pledged to God, so that this authority remains a beacon illuminating the path of the future and documenting in the memory of history the loyalty of a nation that never forgets those who upheld its dignity.
