SoDMA, IRC discuss enhancing humanitarian response cooperation

​MOGADISHU — H.E. Mohamud Moallim Abdulle, Chairman of the Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA), reviewed yesterday in Mogadishu with a delegation from the International Rescue Committee (IRC) the prospects for developing joint cooperation in emergency response fields.

​According to a local news source, the discussions focused on consolidating field coordination frameworks to address humanitarian crises, with a particular emphasis on enhancing national readiness and developing rapid intervention mechanisms to mitigate the impact of natural disasters.

Both parties addressed strategies for building resilient communities capable of withstanding recurrent climate shocks and ensuring the sustainability of essential services in areas most vulnerable to drought and flood risks across Somali regions.

​The deliberations also touched upon mechanisms for improving the efficiency of relief aid delivery, ensuring that support reaches those most in need effectively and promptly, while emphasizing the integration of roles between the agency and international partners.

The meeting witnessed a consensus on the importance of implementing sustainable developmental programs aimed at empowering local cadres and developing their skills in risk management and proactive emergency handling according to global standards.

The Chairman clarified during the session that activating early warning systems and advance preparedness is a fundamental pillar for protecting lives and property, stressing the need to unify efforts to bolster citizens’ adaptation to environmental changes.

H.E. Mohamud Moallim Abdulle reaffirmed SoDMA’s commitment to deepening the strategic partnership with the IRC to modernize national disaster management systems in line with the scale of current and anticipated challenges.

For its part, the IRC delegation expressed its readiness to continue supporting Somali efforts, affirming the ongoing implementation of programs that promote sustainable recovery and support the stability of vulnerable communities in various provinces.

The deliberations concluded by affirming a shared vision aimed at improving humanitarian outcomes and developing institutional performance, ensuring the construction of an integrated national relief system characterized by efficiency and resilience.

These meetings come within the context of Somali efforts to solidify international partnerships and transform climate challenges into opportunities for building a robust humanitarian infrastructure that ensures a safer future for Somali society.
