MOGADISHU — H.E. Mahamuud Moallim Abdulle, Chairman of the Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA), held a formal session of talks today in Mogadishu with H.E. Mohamed Salah Hassan, Ambassador of the Arab Republic of Egypt to Somalia.
As reported by the Somali National News Agency (SONNA), the discussions focused on developing bilateral cooperation in humanitarian fields and unifying joint efforts to enhance national response efficiency for natural crises and emergencies.
Both parties reviewed disaster risk reduction strategies, emphasizing the importance of institutional capacity building and the development of early warning systems to address the accelerating climate changes in the region.
During the meeting, the Egyptian Ambassador reaffirmed Cairo’s commitment to providing continuous relief and humanitarian support to Somalia, noting that Egypt prioritizes regional stability and the mitigation of drought and flood impacts.
The Egyptian diplomat explained that his country seeks to be a long-term strategic partner in building resilient institutions capable of facing environmental challenges, moving beyond the traditional role of providing direct aid.
According to the Somali National News Agency (SONNA), an agreement was reached on a technical support roadmap, involving the deployment of Egyptian experts to conduct advanced training for SoDMA staff in highly specialized fields.
The agreed training programs cover meteorology, strategic risk assessment, and the implementation of the latest international crisis management protocols to modernize environmental forecasting and monitoring tools.
For his part, the Chairman of SoDMA expressed his pride in this partnership, stressing that integrating Egyptian expertise into the Somali framework will bolster the agency’s ability to protect the public from future disasters.
These steps are part of Somalia’s ongoing efforts to modernize its relief infrastructure, where technical integration with regional expertise serves as a fundamental pillar for enabling the national agency to transition toward comprehensive preventive and proactive planning
