HARGEISA — A profound sense of grief has gripped Hargeisa, the capital of Somaliland State, following a horrific house fire that claimed the lives of five young girls from the same family in a tragedy that has shaken the local community.
According to reports by Mustaqbal Media (MM), citing family sources, the blaze broke out early this morning, completely gutting the residence and trapping the victims inside.
A surviving family member recounted the harrowing moments, stating that the fire spread too rapidly for any rescue attempts to succeed. The victims were identified as 12-year-old Faysa, her sister Istahil, and three younger cousins: Iqro, Fadumo, and Maido.
The Mustaqbal report highlighted concerns regarding emergency preparedness, noting a lack of immediate intervention from the fire department or police during the crisis. While neighbors and community members rallied to support the grieving family, local leaders have called for urgent measures to enhance domestic safety standards and improve rapid response capabilities to prevent such heartbreaking losses in the future.
