Banadir governor launches Boondheere drainage development

MOGADISHU — Dr. Hassan Mohamed Hussein Mungab, Governor of the Banadir Regional Administration and Mayor of Mogadishu, has officially launched the rehabilitation and dredging project for the Boondheere District water catchment basin. The initiative is part of a comprehensive strategy to develop infrastructure and modernize essential services in the Somali capital.

Local media sources quoted the Governor during the ceremony, highlighting the project’s strategic importance as a primary catchment basin for five separate districts within the Banadir region. He noted that the rehabilitation will drastically improve the city’s drainage system and mitigate flood risks during rainy seasons, thereby ensuring smoother movement for vehicular traffic and pedestrians in the surrounding areas.

Reports from local media sources explained that the project is fully funded by the Mogadishu Municipality. This intervention marks the third of its kind in a series of projects aimed at maintaining and upgrading key drainage systems across the capital.

In a separate context, the Governor utilized the platform to urge the residents of the Banadir region to exercise their constitutional rights and actively participate in the local council elections scheduled for December 25. He emphasized the importance of civic responsibility in shaping the administrative and developmental future of the city.
