Qatar urges enhanced international support and technical assistance for Somalia in human rights and development

GENEVA — The State of Qatar has underscored the vital importance of continuing to provide technical assistance to the sisterly Federal Republic of Somalia to bolster its national capacities in the field of human rights and enable it to fulfill its international obligations in alignment with its national priorities.

According to the Qatar News Agency (QNA), Jassem Ibrahim Al-Malki, Third Secretary at the Human Rights Department of the Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated during an interactive dialogue with the Independent Expert on the situation of human rights in Somalia in Geneva, that the multifaceted challenges facing Somalia regarding security, stability, and economic growth necessitate active international solidarity to support Somali national pathways.

In a statement carried by QNA, Al-Malki explained that political reforms—foremost among them the completion of constitutional amendments, institutional rebuilding, and ensuring the rule of law—constitute a fundamental pillar of state-building. He emphasized that the inclusivity of this process is essential to ensure the participation of all Somali parties, thereby establishing solutions based on national consensus.

Regarding the humanitarian aspect, QNA reported Qatar’s emphasis on the need for a coordinated international response to address the repercussions of drought, food insecurity, and displacement. This response should bridge urgent relief with developmental strategies to enhance the resilience of the Somali community.

Qatar concluded its statement by reaffirming its commitment to continuing humanitarian and developmental support for Somalia through bilateral and international partnerships to ensure the establishment of a strong and stable state.
