Somalia govt attends UN land conference in Riyadh

RIYADH — The Minister of Environment and Climate Change of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Amb. Khadija Mohamed Almakhzoumi, and the Minister of Livestock, Hassan Hussein Mohamed, attended the official opening of the 16th Conference of the Parties (COP16) to the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) in Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Somalia is committed to supporting international efforts to address the challenges of climate change and focuses on strengthening environmental resilience to ensure a sustainable and inclusive future.

The COP16 Conference presents a significant opportunity for Somalia to showcase its dedication to environmental issues and to enhance international cooperation in combating climate change and restoring land and boost drought resilience.

For the first time, Somalia participates in the COP16 Conference in Riyadh, marking a milestone in the country’s environmental initiatives and its role in global climate action.
