SWS president visits SoDMA’s HQ in Mogadishu

MOGADISHU —  Southwest regional state President Abdiaziz Hassan Mohamed visited the Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA) Headquarters in Mogadishu on Tuesday, a day after the agency issued a warning about the impending Tropical Cyclone Ialy in the southwestern and southern regions.

The regional leader and the Chairperson of the agency, Mohamud Moalim Abdulle, discussed humanitarian efforts and the potential impact of the cyclone named Laly on certain regions.

The President praised the agency for its hard work and emphasized the importance of supporting its relief efforts, as the Southwest state is one of the areas expected to be affected by the cyclone.

Heavy rains and flash floods have caused damage and displacement across Somalia since the beginning of this year.

According to the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, as of May 14, an estimated 225,760 people have been affected by the heavy rains and flooding of the Gu season (April to June), including nearly 38,730 people who have been displaced or relocated.
