A doctor killed in suspected clan revenge in Mudug region

GALKAYO — A gunman, dressed in a security uniform, killed a young and prominent doctor inside his health center in Galkayo town, located in the Mudug region on Saturday evening.

A video recorded by a CCTV camera attached to the center showed that an armed man, accompanied by two unarmed individuals, entered the facility and opened fire on Dr. Sakariye Abdi Jama, resulting in his immediate demise.

Security officials have stated that the perpetrators fled the scene after committing the murder.

Local reports suggest that this killing was linked to tribal revenge, stemming from ongoing inter-clan conflicts in the northern part of Galkacyo town.

Tribal revenge killings have been on the rise in the northern region of Galkacyo town in 2023. The Puntland administration faces growing scrutiny for its inability to successfully combat this violence, particularly when it imperils innocent civilians.
