UN announces global food supply to Somalia was only reason for scarcity

MOGADISHU — The United Nations made an announcement on Friday that global food supply to Somalia was the only motive why scarcity was being kept at bay in the concerned nation.

The UN’s World Food Programme stated the situation was terrible and the country was currently in a desperate race against time to prevent food shortage, struggling with four failed rainy seasons in a row since the end of 2020 and with a fifth ongoing.

On the other hand, WFP cautioned that if the world waited for food shortage to be officially stated ahead of taking action, it would already be too late.

“Somalia is absolutely not out of danger yet. We remain extremely concerned about the dire situation across the country and we’re in a desperate race against time,” WFP’s Somalia deputy nation manager Laura Turner updated journalists in Geneva, speaking from Mogadishu.

“If the situation continues to worsen… then famine is projected before the end of this year.”
