Landmine kills one, wounds five others in central Somalia

MOGADISHU —  One civilian was killed, and five others wounded after a vehicle they travelled in was hit by a landmine in Xujuub area on the outskirts of Beledweyne on Friday.

Officials from the Hiiraan region administration did not provide additional information, but residents told local media that the victims were admitted to Beledweyne general hospital.

On Monday, one child was killed, and two others, aged 10 and 13, were injured when a landmine exploded as they walked home from a Quranic school in the Miiradde area, 40 kilometres southeast of Beledweyne town.

Over the last month, heavy fighting between government forces alongside villagers and al Shabab occurred in several parts of Beledweyne, Mataban, Mahaas, Jalalaqsi, and Buulaburte districts, with dozens of people killed on both sides.

Turkish-trained Somali Gorgor special commandos alongside anti-al Shabab militia have killed six al Shabab militants in a security operation in the Burta Dacarow area in the Hiiraan region on Thursday, where the militants had a large base.
