Drought puts 1.4 M children at risk of malnutrition

MOGADISHU — Severely malnourished children shelter in the the Iftin Camp for internally displaced people outside of the town of Baradere in the Jubaland state of Somalia after fleeing from drought.

Somalia and the Horn of Africa face the driest conditions in more than 40 years, decimating crops and livestock. If the rains do not materialize, 1.4 million children under the age of five will reach acute malnourishment by the end of the year, the UN World Food Program warns.
