Four football players killed in IED blast in Kismayo

KISMAYO — At least four football players  have been killed and six others wounded in IED explosion in the coastal city of Kismayo.

The players who traveling in mini bus were headed to a stadium in Kismayo where Jubaland Vice President Mohamud Sayid Aden was to officially open a football competition.

Incumbent Somali president Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo extended his condolences to families and jubbaland state for the death of the football players and blamed the attack on Al-Shabaab militants.

“President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo condoles over the deaths of the young players killed in terrorist attack,” Villa Somalia said in a statement.

The attack come a day after The four senators were elected to represent Jubaland state in  Somalia’s Upper House of Parliament in 2021.
