Despite coronavirus, Puntland president oversees secondary school examination

GALKAYO — Somalia’s Puntland state president Said Abdullahi Deni on Saturday paid a visit to Omar Samatar school in Galkayo where more than 16000 students are sitting for their final secondary school exams despite COVID-19.

The state leader said that safety measures have been put in place to prevent the spread of COVID-19 at schools during exams.

Meanwhile, a press release from Somalia’s ministry of education confirmed primary schools will sit for their national exams on the 11th of this month while secondary schools will start on 18th July.

All public schools are set to reopen on the 15th of August while universities and colleges will reopen on the 5th of September after they were closed in Mid-March to help contain the spread of COVID-19.
