South West’s president says schools will be reopened next month

HUDUR – South West State will reopen schools next month, the state President Abdiaziz Lafta Gareen has said amid an increasing number of COVID19 cases.

Speaking in Hudur town Thursday, Lafta Gareen said plans were underway to reopen the schools which closed April following an order from the Federal Government.

“The ministry of education together with education stakeholders are working plan to cope up with the challenges. Schools are expected to reopen next month,” the Southwest leader said.

South West state has since recorded 135 cases with eight more cases noted in the last 24 hours according to the Ministry of Health.

It was not immediately clear if the decision by South West to reopen the schools conforms with plans with the Federal Government.

There is no word yet from the Federal Government when schools will reopen.

Puntland has also announced it is planning to reopen Quranic schools soon but has not indicated timelines.
