MOGADISHU — The Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdisaid Muse Ali met with Luca Maestripieri in Mogadishu and exchanged views on Italy’s developments strategy towards Somalia.
The Minister thanked Italy for its longstanding support of Somalia’s reconstruction and economic development efforts.
”It was a pleasure to meet Mr. Luca Maestripieri, Director of the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation. We exchanged views on Italy’s development strategy towards Somalia and thanked Italy for their longstanding support to Somalia’s reconstruction and economic development efforts,” Foreign affairs minister Abdisaid said
The Minister added that the visit of the Director to Somalia illustrates the significance Italy attaches to its partnership with Somalia and underlined Somalia’s commitment to advancing its bilateral relations with Italy.
Italy is cooperating with Somalia in the field of Defence and Security, with the signing of a treaty between the two nations in Rome in 2013 and the Technical Arrangement between the Carabinieri and Somali Police Force in 2015.
Italy is also engaged in the training of the Somali Police Force to provide a contribution to the control capabilities of the Somali territory and the restoration of security conditions in the country.
Italy is the first contributor of men and equipment in the EUTM Somalia military mission, as a form of collaboration and military training with the Somali Ministry of Defense and the Somali Armed Forces.
