SHEC: Somalia didn’t evaluate universities in Somaliland

HARGEISA — Somaliland responds to recent announcement by Somali Ministry of Education in recognizing 41 universities, including some in Somaliland.

Somaliland’s Higher Education Commission has condemned the announcement, saying Somali Ministry of Education and have no business evaluating universities in Somaliland.

They explained that the statement from the Somali Ministry of Education was similar to the statement that Somaliland Airspace is under the control of the Somali government.

“No universities in Somaliland have been evaluated by the Somali government, and reports of this are false”, the commission said in a statement.

Adding “They (Somalia) used to say that the airspace, the sea and the land of Somaliland are under our control, this no different, the Somaliland Universities are governed by the Commission.” said.

Nugal, Baddar, Gollis, Amoud, Borama, and Ell are all universities in Somaliland that the Somali government says have passed its assessment.
