Three suicide bombers killed in blast in central Somalia

GALKAYO — Three suicide bombers were killed in an explosion in Galkayo town of central Somalia on Tuesday evening, the police said.

Sadik Aden Ali, a Somali police spokesman, said the three suicide bombers who were on a motorcycle were planning to blow up themselves near a local hotel before the police stopped them.

“Three suicide bombers were planning to blow themselves up when they were stopped by Galkayo police in Wadajir neighborhood near Ambas Hotel. All the three terrorists died,” Aden said in a brief statement.

The huge blast caused panic in the area as plumes of black smoke could be seen billowing from the scene.

No one was injured, according to the local police, in the latest attack in the country.

No group has claimed responsibility for the latest assault but the al-Shabab militant group has usually staged such attacks before in Mogadishu and elsewhere across the country.
