BRA imposes $5 fine for no masks

MOGADISHU — Banadir Regional Administration has introduced a fine of $5 if found not wearing a face mask in public places in the capital Mogadishu.

In a statement, the administration said all the eighteen districts in Mogadishu made the wearing of mask compulsory and those who fail to adhere to the rule will be fined five dollars.

It is the first time face masks have been made compulsory since the first case was detected in March last year in the Horn of Africa country.

The past week’s resurgence of COVID-19 cases is hit Somalia.

As of Wednesday, the country confirmed 136 new cases of Coronavirus, bringing the total tally of infections to 8,713.

Eight new patients succumbed to the deadly respiratory disease, bringing the total number of deaths since the pandemic was reported in the country to 327.
