Somaliland enhances coordination of IDP camp management eriodically

HARGEISA — The Ministry of Resettlement and Humanitarian Affairs in the Government of Somaliland held its periodic monthly meeting for the coordination and management of displaced persons camps, known as the “Shelter and Site Coordination” meeting, in the capital, Hargeisa, with broad participation from relevant government entities and international humanitarian partners.

The meeting was held in close cooperation with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and was attended by representatives of international and regional organizations working in the field of supporting and managing internal displacement. The meeting reviewed a unified roadmap to ensure the efficiency of humanitarian interventions across various sites and camps.

The session reviewed periodic reports on living and service conditions within the camps during the past period, conducted a precise assessment of the level of services provided, and monitored field challenges facing implementing agencies, aiming to find fundamental solutions that ensure continued support and improved service performance.

Participants also discussed future strategic work plans aimed at developing camp infrastructure and enhancing the scope of health, educational, and public utility services. These plans are designed to meet increasing humanitarian needs and improve the quality of life for displaced persons residing in these locations.

During the discussions, participating entities emphasized the paramount importance of strengthening coordination mechanisms between the government and humanitarian partners. This ensures a more effective and integrated response, avoids duplication of roles, and achieves optimal utilization of available resources in providing essential services.

The meeting concluded by stressing the importance of continuing these periodic sessions as a strategic coordination platform for unifying humanitarian visions and directing field interventions in an institutional manner. This ensures the protection of the dignity of displaced persons and achieves sustainability in the humanitarian services provided to them at various levels.

Monthly meetings for coordinating displaced persons camps constitute a cornerstone of Somaliland’s humanitarian management strategy, serving as a vital mechanism for strengthening the partnership between government institutions and international organizations. Amidst recurring humanitarian challenges, these gatherings emerge as a guarantee for the flexibility of relief work and the improvement of service quality. Through these meetings, the government seeks to create a stable environment that safeguards the rights of displaced persons and supports local development paths, thereby upholding principles of humanitarian governance and collective responsibility toward the most vulnerable groups.
