NAIROBI –- A high-level meeting on the progress of the Barwaaqo Water Resilience and Rural Development Project has commenced in Nairobi, Kenya, bringing together representatives from the Federal Government of Somalia, Federal Member States, and the World Bank Task Team as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen coordination and accelerate implementation of project activities.
According to a statement published on the official Facebook page of the Ministry of Planning, Investment and Economic Development, the three-day meeting focuses on assessing implementation progress, reviewing coordination mechanisms among partners, and addressing challenges and solutions related to project delivery.
In his opening remarks, the Ministry’s Director General, Abdifatah Abdulkadir Farah (Abdifatah Hared), emphasized the importance of sustained collaboration among implementing institutions and development partners to ensure tangible results that improve the livelihoods of rural communities.
Participants are reviewing the technical and operational components of the project, including financial management, procurement and contracting procedures, and monitoring and evaluation systems, while also working to enhance implementation efficiency in line with established timelines.
The meeting also addresses environmental and social aspects of the project to ensure that interventions are implemented in a sustainable manner that reflects local needs and strengthens community participation throughout implementation.
In addition, the gathering provides a platform for knowledge exchange between federal and state-level implementation units, alongside technical guidance from World Bank experts, aimed at improving performance and enhancing the overall impact of development interventions.
The Barwaaqo Project is one of Somalia’s leading development initiatives, focused on improving access to water, strengthening rural resilience to climate change, restoring degraded ecosystems, and enhancing livelihoods in rural areas. The meeting comes at a time of growing need for sustainable development interventions that support stability and inclusive national development across the country.
