MOGADISHU — Somalia’s Federal Ministry of Education, Culture and Higher Education, in close cooperation with the Banadir Regional Education Directorate, has launched a specialized training program for public school principals as part of strategic preparations to expand the implementation of the National School Meals Program across educational institutions in Mogadishu.
According to an official institutional update published today on the Ministry’s verified Facebook page, this capacity-building initiative aims to enhance the operational readiness and administrative capacity of school leadership to effectively manage and deploy the program in line with high standards of efficiency, transparency, and sustainability.
The specialized training sessions focused extensively on modern management systems, standardized operational procedures, and rigorous financial and administrative oversight, while simultaneously strengthening governance and accountability mechanisms to ensure the consistent delivery of safe, reliable, and hygienic school meal services.
The Ministry emphasized that the school feeding initiative represents a key structural pillar in supporting the national education sector, due to its significant role in improving daily student attendance rates, reducing absenteeism and school dropout levels, and creating a more supportive learning environment for children.
It further noted that the program systematically seeks to improve the overall nutritional and health conditions of students, contributing positively to children’s academic performance as well as their physical and cognitive development, particularly among vulnerable and underprivileged local communities.
The Ministry reaffirmed its strict governmental commitment to expanding and strengthening the program’s scope in coordination with international development partners, ensuring that Somali students benefit from a stable and high-quality educational environment that effectively supports continued learning.
