News reports from Mogadishu stated that the Hormuud Salaam Foundation launched a pioneering initiative to provide water free of charge to affected communities by covering the fuel costs required to operate private wells and reservoirs in several vital regions.
In a statement, the foundation invited owners of water facilities to temporarily make their services free for the displaced, affirming its full commitment to covering operational expenses to ensure water reaches the maximum number of families facing acute water scarcity.
In the context of urgent financial initiatives, Telesom Communications announced a donation of $100,000 to support the humanitarian response in northeastern Somalia, particularly in the Sool, Sanaag, and Togdheer regions, which are most affected by the drought.
The company explained that this support was delivered to local committees specialized in funding relief operations, aiming to provide basic necessities to thousands of families who lost their livelihoods due to livestock deaths and shortages of food and water.
For its part, the Dahabshiil Group announced the allocation of $150,000 in emergency aid, marking one of the largest private-sector contributions in response to urgent humanitarian appeals as the crisis escalates in northern Somalia.
The group specified that $100,000 of this aid was directed towards relief efforts in Puntland State, while $50,000 was allocated to support affected communities in the North East State, where over a million people suffer from severe food shortages.
Participating companies emphasized that these moves reflect the private sector’s commitment to its pivotal role in supporting government and international efforts, especially amidst fears of low rainfall during the current season and increasing internal displacement.
