​Mogadishu mayor inaugurates Darmooley school to empower girls

​MOGADISHU — H.E. Dr. Hassan Mohamed Hussein (Muungaab), Governor of Banadir Region and Mayor of Mogadishu, officially inaugurated the Darmooley Girls’ School in Heliwaa District, as part of local government efforts to bolster the education sector.

Local Radio Dalsan reported that the ceremony was attended by officials and community leaders. Mayor Muungaab emphasized that the school’s launch reflects the Banadir Regional Administration’s commitment to improving education and expanding access for girls in the capital.

The Governor stressed that education remains the most critical pillar for sustainable development and peace, noting that this step lays a foundation for a brighter future for Mogadishu’s younger generations, serving overall national stability.

​Dr. Muungaab pointed to the strategic importance of investing in female education, which plays a pivotal role in shaping resilient communities and fostering long-term social and economic progress.

According to Radio Dalsan, the Mayor reaffirmed the Mogadishu Municipality’s determination to ensure that all children, especially girls, have access to inclusive, high-quality education, providing essential school supplies and a stimulating environment.

The project received widespread acclaim from Heliwaa residents, who described the inauguration as a major milestone that will transform the lives of their daughters, who previously faced limited educational opportunities in this vital area.

​This initiative is part of a series of development projects implemented by the Banadir Regional Administration in health and social services, aimed at raising living standards, achieving comprehensive growth, and developing infrastructure across Mogadishu.

Radio Dalsan confirmed that the school is carefully equipped with scientific references and African history books to enhance students’ cultural and national awareness, aligning with the state’s vision of building a generation proud of its Somali and African identity.

The ceremony concluded by emphasizing that Mogadishu Municipality places women’s empowerment at the forefront of its strategic plans, believing that national progress begins with equipping girls with the knowledge needed to face future challenges and contribute to state-building.
