Saudi Arabia builds 200 homes in Kismayo .. lasting hope for flood victims

KISMAYO — In a move that embodies the deep fraternal ties and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s commitment to international humanitarian work, the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSrelief) launched a pioneering development project aimed at providing sustainable housing solutions for those affected by floods in the city of Kismayo, Federal Republic of Somalia.

The foundation stone was laid for the project to construct (200) integrated residential units in the Lughlo area, north of Kismayo city in the Jubaland region, amidst an official and public presence. The event was attended by the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management for Jubaland, Mr. Abdirahman Abdi, a number of local officials, and the Director of KSrelief’s Africa branch, Mr. Yazeed Hammoud.

According to the news published by the Saudi Press Agency (SPA), this project is considered the first of its kind in Somalia. It goes beyond merely providing shelter, extending to include the construction of health and educational facilities, establishing essential infrastructure for water networks and roads, and undertaking afforestation efforts to enhance the environmental aspect. This comprehensive approach aims to bolster social stability for the families who lost their homes due to the recent floods.

The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management expressed his deepest gratitude and appreciation to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and its humanitarian arm, KSrelief, for this initiative, which he described as providing a “sustainable housing solution” at a time when the situation demands urgent intervention to improve the lives of hundreds of affected families.

This effort is part of the continuous series of relief and humanitarian projects provided by the Kingdom to alleviate the suffering of the brotherly Somali people, strengthening the resilience of local communities to face the challenges of crises and natural disasters.
