Somali disaster management staff conclude specialized training in China

BEINJING — Staff from the Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA) have successfully concluded a specialized training program in Beijing, China, focused on crucial methods of disaster prevention and mitigation in Somalia. The two-day training was organized by the Ministry of Commerce of China and implemented by the Red Cross Society of China.

The closing ceremony, held at the Red Cross Society of China headquarters, was attended by senior representatives from the Somali Embassy in Beijing, led by Ambassador Hodan Osman Abdi.

In their remarks, Mr. Song Yi, Deputy Director General of the External Liaison Department of the Red Cross Society of China, and Mr. Yin Zheng, Deputy Director of the Chinese Red Cross National Training Center, urged the SoDMA staff to effectively transfer the knowledge and skills gained to strengthen Somalia’s national disaster management efforts.

Mr. Song Yi also praised the dedication of the Somali participants and pledged continued future capacity-building programmes.

Ambassador Hodan Osman Abdi formally closed the ceremony, conveying Somalia’s deep appreciation to the People’s Republic of China for its ongoing support, and extending sincere thanks to the Ministry of Commerce and the Red Cross Society of China for facilitating the vital training.
