MOGADISHU — As part of its commitment to strengthening Arab humanitarian collaboration, a delegation from the Arab Red Crescent and Red Cross Organization (ARCO) concluded a field visit to the Federal Republic of Somalia from July 6 to 10, reaffirming its support for enhancing the capacity of the Somali Red Crescent Society (SRCS) and expanding its outreach to underserved areas lacking access to essential health and humanitarian services.
According to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA), the delegation was led by ARCO Secretary-General Dr. Abdullah bin Suhail Al-Mohaidly, and included senior officials such as Bander Thawab Al-Mutairi, Supervisor of the Arab Center for Disaster Preparedness, and Hadin Al-Fetaih, accompanied by a team from the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSrelief).
During the visit, the delegation emphasized the importance of empowering the SRCS to operate without impediments, calling for the advancement of humanitarian diplomacy, the expansion of specialized training partnerships, and the mobilization of more volunteers to boost the society’s on-the-ground response capabilities.
As reported by SPA, the mission began with an inspection of the SRCS headquarters, where the delegation reviewed the society’s national-level programs and examined its organizational structure and internal coordination mechanisms for humanitarian operations.
The team then visited the SRCS Prosthetics Manufacturing Facility, a key center serving patients in Somalia and the broader region. The visit concluded at the Rehabilitation Center, where delegation members were introduced to its specialized programs and services for individuals with injuries and disabilities.
The Somali Red Crescent Society expressed deep gratitude to ARCO for its sustained support, particularly through the provision of specialized equipment and the training of field teams, which, as SPA noted, has contributed to improved quality of humanitarian services on the ground.
This collaboration reflects ARCO’s broader mission to empower its member national societies and enhance humanitarian response capacity in fragile contexts—especially amid the growing challenges posed by climate change and resource scarcity across the Horn of Africa.
