Saudi Arabia funds new housing for flood survivors in Kismayo

RIYADH — In a renewed commitment to support communities affected by natural disasters, the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSRelief) signed a virtual cooperation agreement on Wednesday to construct 200 fully equipped housing units in the southern Somali city of Kismayo, targeting families impacted by severe flooding.

According to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA), the agreement was signed by Eng. Ahmad bin Ali Al-Bayez, Assistant Supervisor General of the Center for Operations and Programs. In addition to the housing units, the project includes the establishment of essential service facilities such as a school, mosque, health center, elevated water tank, and a solar power station, along with road grading and leveling in the targeted areas.

The initiative is expected to benefit approximately 9,360 individuals directly and an estimated 81,000 people indirectly, reflecting the broad developmental and humanitarian impact of the project, which combines emergency relief with sustainable infrastructure.

This initiative comes as part of the Kingdom’s ongoing efforts—through its humanitarian arm, KSRelief—to provide essential needs and dignified shelter for displaced families in Somalia, a country facing repeated environmental crises that have left thousands homeless.

This strategic intervention highlights Saudi Arabia’s dedication to moving beyond emergency aid, investing in developmental solutions that help rebuild communities and enhance their resilience against future disasters—reinforcing the Kingdom’s role as a global humanitarian leader committed to compassion and solidarity.
