MOGADISHU — Somalia has officially joined the Multidimensional Poverty Peer Network (MPPN), marking a significant advancement in the country’s efforts to address poverty through a more comprehensive lens. This membership comes as the National Bureau of Statistics develops its pilot Multidimensional Poverty Index (MPI), aligning Somalia with a global community committed to a holistic approach in measuring and combating poverty.
The Global MPI, established in 2010 by the Oxford Poverty and Human Development Initiative and the United Nations Development Programme, offers a deeper understanding of poverty by going beyond mere income measurements.
