MOGADISHU — Somalia has so far evacuated more than 1,500 nationals from conflict-torn Sudan.
State Minister of Foreign Affairs Ali Omar said some 700 people have been transported to Mogadishu, the capital, and Garowe and Hargeisa.
“We will continue to assist the remaining. Thanks to our diplomats in Sudan, South Sudan and Ethiopia,” Omar said in a statement issued Sunday evening.
Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Abshir Omar Jama said the evacuation of Somali citizens from Sudan remains a priority for the government.
“The ministry is committed to ensuring the safety of our citizens and shall intensify its efforts if need be,” Jama said in a tweet Monday.
