SoDMA supports South West Somalia with food and water aid

BAIDOA — In an urgent national response reflecting the highest values of human solidarity, the Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA), in cooperation with the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management of the South West State of Somalia, launched an integrated relief campaign in Baidoa and its surrounding areas. This strategic initiative aims to provide a lifeline for the most vulnerable families through two parallel tracks securing water supplies and urgent food aid, seeking to preserve human dignity and strengthen social stability amidst the harsh climatic conditions witnessed in the country.

The field response began in its first phase the day before yesterday, Sunday, with the inauguration of a week-long water trucking campaign. This operation delivers clean water via dedicated tankers to affected areas in Baidoa and nearby villages to meet the needs of residents and livestock. H.E. Abdullahi Isaac Moallim, Deputy Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management of the state, emphasized that the top priority is containing the water crisis and reducing the impacts of depleted resources in response to local community appeals.

In connection with this field movement that began Sunday by deploying tankers to the hardest-hit neighborhoods, yesterday, Monday, saw the inauguration of the second supportive phase of the initiative. This phase focused on distributing various food aids in Baidoa to ensure essential nutritional needs are met for those who lost their livelihoods due to successive environmental crises, embodying the comprehensive nature of the relief intervention led by the Agency.

The food aid distributed on Monday targeted approximately three hundred highly vulnerable households, including persons with disabilities and internally displaced persons who recently arrived in the city escaping hunger. Mr. Abdirahman Mohamed Hussein, SoDMA Assistant Charman for Arab and Islamic Affairs and the Agency’s representative in the campaign, explained that these interventions will continue as long as the need persists, affirming the Agency’s commitment to mobilizing resources to support stricken communities effectively.

These integrated humanitarian movements reflect the close coordination between the Federal Government and the Regional States to unify relief efforts and ensure they cover all affected areas. Local authorities in Baidoa praised the rapid field response of the Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA), noting that this support represents a fundamental pillar in strengthening the resilience of local residents against accelerating climate challenges hitting vast parts of Somalia.

This campaign reflects the Somali state’s commitment to its responsibilities toward its citizens, affirming that the synergy of national efforts is the ultimate guarantee to overcome humanitarian crises and achieve food and water stability. Mogadishu continues to place human protection above all else to build a secure future for coming generations through efficiency and transparency in the management of relief resources.

This integrated humanitarian movement in Somalia represents a renewed national covenant embodying the spirit of solidarity in its finest form, affirming that investing in national relief efforts and strengthening the values of synergy is the most effective way to achieve community safety and preserve citizen dignity in the face of nature’s fluctuations and harsh climate.
