KSrelief launches zakat al-fitr distribution project in Somalia

MOGADISHU — The King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSrelief) inaugurated a vital humanitarian project to distribute Zakat al-Fitr assistance across the Federal Republic of Somalia for the year 1447 AH – 2026 AD, in cooperation with the Al-Mahasin Foundation for Development and Education. This initiative is part of the comprehensive relief programs adopted by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to support vulnerable communities and embody Islamic solidarity values during the blessed days of Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr.

The Somali National News Agency (SONNA) reported that the project aims to distribute ten thousand bags of rice, with a total weight of two hundred tons, to assist underprivileged and displaced families in camps. It is expected that approximately eighty thousand people across various Somali regions will benefit from this in-kind assistance, directly contributing to enhancing the food security of the most needy families during the Eid period.

As reported by “SONNA,” citing center sources, the distribution plan grants top priority to the most vulnerable segments of society, including internally displaced families, orphans, widows, and low-income households. The first phase of the project includes extensive coverage of the Banadir region and South West State to ensure that assistance reaches its actual beneficiaries in areas suffering from increasing humanitarian pressures.

This humanitarian step comes in response to the escalating challenges faced by Somali communities, resulting from recurrent drought waves and forced displacement movements that have led to deteriorating living standards. The project seeks to meet basic food needs and alleviate the humanitarian suffering that accompanies families under conditions of acute food insecurity currently witnessed in the country.

In a related context, the Al-Mahasin Foundation for Development and Education expressed its pride in its strategic partnership with KSrelief, affirming its commitment to implementing the project according to the highest standards of transparency and institutional integrity. The foundation noted that field operations would be carried out with high precision to ensure distribution efficiency and achieve the desired impact of this generous humanitarian grant provided by the Kingdom.

The implementing agencies explained, as stated by the Somali National News Agency, that distribution operations are conducted in close coordination with local authorities and community committees in the targeted areas to ensure smoothness and fair access. This joint coordination aims to regulate beneficiary lists and ensure that assistance is received at the specified Sharia times for Zakat al-Fitr, preserving the dignity of the beneficiary families.

This project represents an extension of the pioneering humanitarian role played by KSrelief in Somalia through the implementation of a package of sustainable relief and developmental projects. These efforts work to consolidate the foundations of social stability and enhance the spirit of solidarity and mutual cooperation with communities affected by crises and natural disasters across various regions.

Humanitarian observers emphasized that the timing of the initiative gains special importance, as it contributes to adding an atmosphere of joy and tranquility to the hearts of children and needy families during the days of Eid. This assistance serves as a bridge for human communication, reflecting the depth of the historical brotherly relations between the Saudi and Somali peoples, and a living embodiment of the Kingdom’s message of giving.

The inauguration events concluded by reaffirming the continuity of the Saudi relief path in Somalia to support the community’s resilience in the face of complex humanitarian crises. These projects remain a fundamental pillar in the international humanitarian action strategy aimed at preserving human dignity and achieving social welfare in the most affected areas, ensuring a more stable future.

The sustainability of relief initiatives in Somalia proves that human solidarity is the strong fortress in facing crises, confirming that the synergy of international and local efforts remains the best way to plant hope and draw a brighter and more stable future for coming generations in light of current challenges.
