Somali youth: sowing the seeds of hope for food security

MOGADISHU — In a qualitative step toward strengthening self-reliance and achieving food security, the Somali Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation organized a unique exhibition of youth innovations in the agricultural sector. This humanitarian and national event celebrates the capabilities of a new generation, as 50 young men and women showcased the outcomes of an intensive six-week training program.

According to the Somali National News Agency (SONNA), the exhibition is part of an open innovation competition that aims to encourage youth to actively contribute to the development of the agricultural sector, which is the backbone of the Somali economy.

Through these initiatives, the Somali government reaffirms its firm belief that youth are the primary engine of development. Empowering them with the necessary tools and knowledge to increase agricultural productivity is not only an investment in the sector but an investment in the nation’s future, ensuring a more sustainable and food-secure tomorrow
