SoDMA sends a second batch of staff for training in China

MOGADISHU — In a strategic move to bolster its national capabilities in disaster management, the Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA) announced the dispatch of a second group of its employees to participate in a specialized training program in the People’s Republic of China. This program is part of the agency’s continuous efforts to develop its human resources, ensuring the country’s readiness to confront natural disasters and crises.

The delegation heading to China includes 20 male and female employees from SODMA, in addition to several staff members from the Somali Ministry of Interior. This step underscores the agency’s belief that investing in knowledge and expertise is the cornerstone of building a strong and sustainable national disaster management system.

During a ceremony held on this occasion, SoDMA’s Chairman, Mr. Mohmoud Moallim Abdulle, affirmed that this training program represents a crucial part of the agency’s plans to enhance Somalia’s resilience in the face of future challenges. He noted that the participating employees are ambassadors for their nation and must make the most of the knowledge and skills the program will offer.

For his part, the Deputy Chairman of the agency, Dr. Ahmed Abdi Adan, explained that this training journey is not just an opportunity for individual skill enhancement but a direct investment in Somalia’s future. He called upon the participants to apply their newly acquired knowledge on the ground to become agents of change in the field of emergency management.

The training course, titled “Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Training Course for Somalia,” will last for 24 days in the Chinese capital, Beijing. It is sponsored by the Ministry of Commerce of the People’s Republic of China and organized by the National Training Center of the Red Cross Society of China.
