SoDMA enhances its partnerships by signing MoU with Swedish organization

MOGADISHU — In a move to strengthen its national capabilities in humanitarian response and disaster management, the Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA) yesterday, Thursday, signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Swedish organization LM International. The agreement aims to develop joint cooperation in the areas of training and institutional capacity building, which will contribute to improving the efficiency of humanitarian sector workers in the country.

The signing ceremony took place at the agency’s headquarters in the Somali capital, Mogadishu. The MoU was signed on behalf of SoDMA by its Chairman, Mr. Mohamud Moallim Abdulle, while the organization was represented by its Program Coordinator, Ms. Nasra Mohamed Ahmed.

Under the terms of the memorandum, the focus will be on implementing specialized training programs designed to enhance the skills of national cadres in crisis and disaster management, as well as in the high-efficiency planning and execution of relief projects. This collaboration will strengthen Somalia’s ability to face future humanitarian challenges and mitigate their effects on affected communities.

The Somali Disaster Management Agency plays a pivotal role in leading and coordinating humanitarian and relief operations in the Republic of Somalia. It works to unify and direct local and international efforts to confront natural disasters such as drought and floods, in addition to other humanitarian crises affecting food security and population stability.

This cooperation is an extension of the agency’s vision to build strategic partnerships with active international organizations, ensuring the continuity of the necessary technical and financial support for carrying out relief missions across the country, thereby serving the highest humanitarian and national interests.
