HARGEISA — Somaliland opposition party leader Abdirahman Irro has tested positive for the COVID-19 disease adding to an increasing number of senior political leaders who have contracted the disease in Somalia.
The Waddani party leader confirmed on his Facebook page that he had been infected. The politician is currently in Finland where he had been based before plunging into politics in Somaliland.
Irro now joins an increasing list of leaders who have contracted COVID-19 with some succumbing to the pandemic.
Two former prime ministers- Nur Hassan Hussein and Ali Khalif Galayd died of COVID-19 in April and October respectively. HirShabelle State Minister for Justice Khalif Mumin Tohow also succumbed to COVID-19 in April.
According to the last update from the Federal Ministry of Health on October 11, COVID-19 cases in the country stand at 3,864 while fatalities are 99.
