MOGADISHU<\/strong> —\u00a0 Somalia has announced closure of all learning institutions for 14-days in a bid to cub the spread of the novel corona virus.<\/p>\n

Information Minister, Osman Abukar Dubbe announced Tuesday night the closure of schools and universities, also called on all sectors of the society to unite in taming the spread of the disease.<\/p>\n

Dubbe also stated that the government banned public gatherings for thirty days with exception of permitted events.<\/p>\n

\u201cAll public gatherings are banned, those events with permission from the government will observe all necessary measures including social distancing. The number of people attending funerals are required to be limited,\u201d the minister said.<\/p>\n

Since the resurgence of the deadly coronavirus early last month, Somalia continues to record three digits of cases with deaths caused by novel COVID-19 increased.<\/p>\n

On Tuesday the disease killed veteran lawmaker Ahmed Dhimbil Roble \u201cAsoowe\u201d passed away in Martini hospital.<\/p>\n

Both president Farmajo and Prime Minister Roble condoled with family and relatives of the deceased.<\/p>\n

According to the ministry of health, total death toll of those died of the virus stands at 249.<\/p>\n

The country\u2019s total number of COVID-19 cases now hit 7,518 and recoveries at 3,846.<\/p>\n

Somalia is yet to begin innoculating its people but is set to receive 1.2 million doses of the Oxford AstraZeneca vaccine this February, according to the World Health Organization (WHO).<\/p>\n
