BELEDWEYNE — <\/strong>A Somali official says a United Nations cargo plane carrying humanitarian aid has crashed at an airport in central Somalia and the three crew members survived.<\/p>\n

Sabrie Ahmed with the local administration in Beledweyne town said that the plane veered off the runway and crashed onto its belly Tuesday.<\/p>\n

The plane flying from Djibouti was delivering food aid for people displaced by heavy rains.<\/p>\n

There was no immediate word on what caused the crash. The United Nations is not yet to comment on the matter.<\/p>\n

Ali Jeite Osman, the governor of Hiran region, told reporters that a fire erupted in the plane after the crash but they could not extinguish it as the airport lacked firefighting apparatus.<\/p>\n
