MOGADISHU — <\/strong>The Federal Government of Somalia on Wednesday announced 20 new cases of the novel Coronavirus, bringing the total number of COVID-19 cases in the country to 80.<\/p>\n

The rising cases came as the country\u2019s Ministry of Health reported three new fatalities, raising the death toll from COVID-19 to five.<\/p>\n

In a statement, Somali health minister, Dr. Fowzia Abukar said the country has recorded three more deaths and twenty more new cases bringing the total deaths to five and putting the number of infected persons to 80.<\/p>\n

Minister Fowziya urged the public to take instructions of the health authorities seriously in order to contain the rapid spread of the disease in the country.<\/p>\n

The minister also warned those in self-isolation and quarantine to maintain social distancing submitting that those who are negative might be infected by those who are positive if they are not careful.<\/p>\n

The disease has previously been declared a pandemic by the World Health Organization (WHO) after the disease caused by the new coronavirus spread to nearly every country.<\/p>\n

After emerging in Wuhan, China last December, the virus, officially known as COVID-19, has killed more than 133,000 people and infected more than 2 million, according to data compiled by Johns Hopkins University.<\/p>\n

However, the vast majority of those who get infected recover from the illness.<\/p>\n
