MOGADISHU — <\/strong>The Somali federal government has imposed a curfew in the capital, Mogadishu as part of measures to halt the spread of the Coronavirus.<\/p>\n

While addressing the media, Police Commissioner Gen. Abdi Hassan Mohamed said the government will be implementing a night curfew between 20:00 and 05:00 starting Wednesday (Apr 15) which is aimed at preventing the spread of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).<\/p>\n

The police boss said all movements will be restricted and businesses within the city will remain closed from 8 pm every day to 5 am.<\/p>\n

The curfew will have some exceptions, including for the transport of medical supplies, movement of people into quarantine, patients and travel of medical personnel. He added.<\/p>\n

The government stressed the importance of respecting the curfew in order to contain the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n

Somalia has so far announced 25 cases of the deadly disease and two deaths.<\/p>\n

The disease which has been declared a pandemic by WHO has so far claimed 114,253 lives and infected around 1,853, 393 people.<\/p>\n

The East African country remains among countries with few cases of the disease as most African countries record double-digit figures.<\/p>\n
