DOHA (SOHA) –<\/strong> Qatar Charity (QC) announced today the details of its donation campaign in partnership with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) to help Somali refugees integrate with the receiving communities.<\/p>\n

The campaign was launched in the presence of HE Sheikh Hamad bin Nasser bin Jassim Al-Thani, Board Chairman of Qatar Charity (QC), and representatives of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), on the sidelines of the Aid & Trade conference and exhibition recently held in London.<\/p>\n

The campaign aims to mobilize support for the construction and rehabilitation of Somalia’s public infrastructure on a regional basis, with specific investments in healthcare, education, shelter, water and sanitation, Qatar Charity said in a press release.<\/p>\n

The campaign also seeks to rehabilitate other social facilities, while promoting job creation and awareness of the needs and challenges facing development in Somalia.<\/p>\n

Qatar Charity stressed that these basic interventions are in line with the infrastructure of the National Development Plan for Somalia, 2017-2019, and noted that this project comes within the overall framework of the Somali government in reintegration, education, shelter, covering the areas of Puntland, Somaliland, south and central Somalia.<\/p>\n

The two parties seek reintegration through the creation of a general rehabilitation and construction infrastructure aimed at promoting peaceful coexistence, self-reliance and access to basic services in areas of return, and Somali returnees, displaced persons and receiving communities can achieve appropriate conditions of stability.<\/p>\n

The campaign program’s budget is estimated at more than $ 9 million in the healthcare, education, shelter, water and sanitation sectors, and is expected to benefit some 100,000 people.<\/p>\n

“The joint donation campaign seeks to provide basic services for easy integration of Somali returnees and internally displaced persons with receiving communities,” said Yousuf bin Ahmed Al Kuwari, Qatar Charity’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO).<\/p>\n

He added that “the campaign is particularly important given that the ongoing drought and long-term conflicts over two decades have caused serious damage to Somalia’s public infrastructure and have hindered the provision of basic services that have severely affected people throughout Somalia.”<\/p>\n

He stressed QC’s keenness on partnership and cooperation with United Nations organizations and coordination with them, especially in areas suffering from disasters and crises to maximize the outputs associated with international humanitarian efforts.<\/p>\n

For his part, Khalid Khalifa, UNHCR Regional Representative for the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), said: “The partnership with Qatar Charity has reached this high level with the launch of a joint donation campaign.”<\/p>\n

“I am confident that this campaign will be successful and will provide basic services to meet the needs of Somali returnees, internally displaced persons and receiving communities.”, he added.<\/p>\n

The cooperation between Qatar Charity (QC) and UNHCR comes within the framework of the strategic partnership and cooperation signed between the two parties in Geneva in October, last year.<\/p>\n
