{"id":3491,"date":"2019-09-04T23:17:14","date_gmt":"2019-09-04T23:17:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/sooha.org\/en\/?p=3491"},"modified":"2019-09-07T06:22:00","modified_gmt":"2019-09-07T06:22:00","slug":"somalia-and-world-bank-discuss-efforts-to-avert-imminent-river-floods","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sooha.org\/en\/2019\/09\/04\/somalia-and-world-bank-discuss-efforts-to-avert-imminent-river-floods\/","title":{"rendered":"Somalia and WB discuss efforts to avert imminent river floods"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>MOGADISHU (SoOHA) &#8211;<\/strong> Somali officials and representatives from the World Bank (WB) discussed ways to reduce water shortages in the country.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">A meeting between Villa Somali chief of staff, Dr. Nur Dirie Hersi and visiting World Bank officials in Mogadishu also discussed the potential of the two main rivers in the country namely Jubba and Shabelle rivers that is the main source of water and irrigation for farmers.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The two sides deliberated the need to share the precious community among various citizens in the region with respect to the international treaties.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Jubba and Shabelle river originate from neighboring Ethiopian highlands and then flows southeast into Somalia towards Mogadishu.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Measures to avert flood-related calamities along the banks of rivers during the raining seasons while putting long-lasting plans were also discussed.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">During the rainy seasons, farmers and livestock keepers along the banks\u2019 rivers are affected by the flooding.<br \/>\nHundreds of families were displaced when Shabelle river burst its banks in April last year destroying crops and submerging houses in the agricultural city of Beled-Weyn.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Source: Halbeeg News<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>MOGADISHU (SoOHA) &#8211; Somali officials and representatives from the World Bank (WB) discussed ways to reduce water shortages in the country.
