They receive no aid or assistance, other than handouts from relatives who have something to spare. They\u00a0feel dejected and\u00a0miss their former lifestyle.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Shamis\u00a0Eidid\u00a0Warsame settled in\u00a0Sibbayevillage three years ago after a drought killed\u00a0off\u00a0almost all her livestock.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">She\u00a0had\u00a0hoped to get a better life in the camp,\u00a0at least with some help and support to tide her through the crisis, but she says she is in a worse\u00a0situation\u00a0than before.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cLife was better before because we had meat and milk,\u201d\u00a0Shamis\u00a0told Radio Ergo.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cLet\u00a0alone\u00a0development\u00a0or\u00a0progress, we have\u00a0nothing to eat nor even clean water to drink!\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">She gets a\u00a0little from her relative,\u00a0but nothing\u00a0from the authorities\u00a0or\u00a0any\u00a0aid agencies in the\u00a0Sanag\u00a0region.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cApart from\u00a0our\u00a0nomadic lifestyle, we have no other skill to survive. The livestock perished during\u00a0the\u00a0drought three years ago subjecting us to\u00a0this\u00a0struggle and suffering,\u201d\u00a0said the mother of seven.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Shamis\u00a0once\u00a0had 300 goats and 30 camels,\u00a0but\u00a0the herd has dwindled to just two camels and\u00a0only 12\u00a0goats.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Seventy-four families in a similar position to\u00a0Shamis\u00a0live in\u00a0Sibbaye\u00a0camp.\u00a0The boreholes in the area produce salty water that is not fit to drink, so they have to buy water from privately owned water tankers\u00a0coming\u00a0from\u00a0Hingalol\u00a0town, 20 km away.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Shamis\u00a0can ill afford the expense and has had to let her children give up school\u00a0and stay at home, in order to make ends meet.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cIn this village, we have only\u00a0one\u00a0private\u00a0[fee paying]\u00a0school,\u00a0but my children don\u2019t\u00a0go to\u00a0the\u00a0school as I can\u2019t\u00a0get\u00a0money for\u00a0both food and school fees at a time,\u201d\u00a0Shamissaid.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Another\u00a0former\u00a0pastoralist\u00a0in the camp,\u00a0Abduqadir\u00a0Farah Mohamud,\u00a0told Radio Ergo his wish would be to\u00a0go back to his rural\u00a0area if he\u00a0could get some support to do so.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cRather than staying, I would rather go back and restart\u00a0my\u00a0old\u00a0way of life\u00a0rearing livestock,\u00a0because\u00a0here\u00a0we\u00a0have\u00a0no food, water\u00a0or\u00a0even hospital,\u201d\u00a0Abdulqadir\u00a0said.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">He has only 14 left of his original herd of 200\u00a0goats.\u00a0His\u00a0family survives with little support from a relative in the town.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">There are few income-earning opportunities in this area.\u00a0Faduma\u00a0Ganni\u00a0runs\u00a0a\u00a0small kiosk\u00a0selling\u00a0tea\u00a0trying to earn a living.\u00a0She arrived in the village three\u00a0years\u00a0ago after a drought killed all her livestock.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cI\u00a0get\u00a0very\u00a0\u201cLet\u00a0alone\u00a0development and progress, we have\u00a0nothing to eat nor even clean water to drink,\u201d said Shamus.\u00a0little money from\u00a0the\u00a0kiosk,\u201d\u00a0Faduma\u00a0said.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cI work most of the time and sometimes get\u00a0just\u00a0three dollars,\u201d\u00a0said\u00a0Fadumo,\u00a0who\u00a0tries to raise\u00a0the school fees\u00a0for\u00a0three children from the kiosk.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Source: Radio Ergo<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>ERI GABO (SoOHA) &#8211; In\u00a0our series on\u00a0Somalia\u2019s\u00a0IDP camps, Radio Ergo\u2019s reporter in\u00a0Sanag\u00a0spoke with displaced pastoralist families living in a village camp near the town of\u00a0Hingalol.
