{"id":320,"date":"2018-04-30T08:17:31","date_gmt":"2018-04-30T08:17:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/sooha.org\/en\/?p=320"},"modified":"2018-04-30T11:44:01","modified_gmt":"2018-04-30T11:44:01","slug":"amisom-joins-efforts-to-help-flood-victims-in-beledweyne","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sooha.org\/en\/2018\/04\/30\/amisom-joins-efforts-to-help-flood-victims-in-beledweyne\/","title":{"rendered":"AMISOM joins efforts to help flood victims in Beledweyne"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>BELEDWEYNE (SOHA) &#8211;<\/strong> The peacekeepers serving with the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) have joined the efforts to assist victims of massive flooding in the country.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Djibouti and Ethiopian peacekeepers and the Somali National Army (SNA) were helping in delivering food and relocating hundreds of people to safer grounds.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Shabelle, one of the two rivers passing through Somalia\u2019s central and southern regions has burst its banks at several points, affecting thousands of people.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span id=\"desktopcontrol1_newsdesktop3_lblcontent\">Beledweyne town, the capital of Hiran region, 335km north of Mogadishu, is the most affected.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Over 100,000 people are estimated to have moved to higher grounds on the outskirts of the town. Many more remained stranded in parts of the town.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The President of Hirshabelle State, an authority in Central Somalia, Mr Mohamed Abdi Ware, commended the Amisom troops for their efforts.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cOver 100,000 people, roughly 26,000 families, have moved to the outskirts of Beledweyne town,\u201d said President Ware, addressing a press conference, with almost half of his body under the flood waters.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cWe thank the Amisom troops and the SNA forces for assisting the floods-affected people,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cWe urgently request the federal government of Somalia and the international community to come to the rescue of the people in Hirshabelle State, especially in Beledweyne town,\u201d the regional leader pleaded.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Shabelle River in Beledwene town have risen eight metres above normal following the onset of the long rains season.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Source: DAILY NATION<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>BELEDWEYNE (SOHA) &#8211; The peacekeepers serving with the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) have joined the efforts to assist victims of massive flooding in the country.
