{"id":3018,"date":"2019-05-31T22:00:59","date_gmt":"2019-05-31T22:00:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/sooha.org\/en\/?p=3018"},"modified":"2019-06-01T07:06:53","modified_gmt":"2019-06-01T07:06:53","slug":"un-condemns-gang-rape-of-9-year-old-girl-in-central-somalia","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sooha.org\/en\/2019\/05\/31\/un-condemns-gang-rape-of-9-year-old-girl-in-central-somalia\/","title":{"rendered":"UN condemns gang rape of 9-year-old girl in central Somalia"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>MOGADISHU (SoOHA) &#8211;<\/strong> The UN Population Fund (UNFPA) on Thursday condemned the gang rape of a nine-year-old girl in the central Somali town of Bulo-Burde, some 425 km west of Mogadishu.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Anders Thomsen, UNFPA Representative for Somalia, Anders Thomsen called for a speedy investigation into the grave crime on the little girl who was gang raped on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8220;We strongly condemn the gruesome act and reaffirm our commitment to stand with both the government and people of Somalia to ensure that sexual and gender based violence is eliminated,&#8221; Thomsen said in a statement issued in Mogadishu.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">He called on the Somali authorities to ensure the availability of adequate protection measures for girls and women in Somalia.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">According to UNFPA, gender-based violence is a grave violation of individual women&#8217;s and girls&#8217; rights.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The girl, whose identity has been kept a secret, was taken into hospital after she was brutally raped in Bulo-Burde.
