MOGADISHU —<\/strong> The Banadir Regional Education Directorate announced today, Sunday, the results of the Grade Eight examinations for the 2025 academic year, following the completion of the marking and review processes and the approval of the results, in a step that highlights the importance of assessing academic achievement and monitoring the performance of students in schools across the region. The announcement was accompanied by the honoring of the top-performing students in recognition of their achievements and to encourage them to continue their educational journey, as efforts continue to improve the education process and the quality of educational outcomes in the capital and across the region.<\/p>\n

According to data released by the directorate, a total of 45,452 students sat for the examinations, including 20,666 girls and 23,351 boys, while 1,435 students were unable to pass the examinations, representing approximately 3.2 percent of the total number of candidates. Meanwhile, 44,017 students passed and became eligible to proceed to the next educational level. These figures reflect the scale of participation in basic education examinations in Banadir Region, while also highlighting the importance of continuing to support students who did not pass by providing remedial and academic support programs to help them overcome educational difficulties and improve their performance in the future.<\/p>\n

Among the top-performing students, Sumaya Hassan Bashir Adam ranked first in the Grade Eight examinations across Banadir Region, followed by Balqis Mohamed Omar Mohamed in second place, while Ahmed Abdinasir Abdullahi Abdi ranked third. The top-performing students were honored in recognition of the efforts they made during the academic year and the results they achieved in the examinations, and to encourage them to maintain their academic excellence as they move into secondary education. Honoring high-performing students also serves as an incentive for other students and helps promote the values of hard work, perseverance and positive competition within educational institutions and the wider community.<\/p>\n

The announcement of the results and the honoring of top-performing students come as part of efforts to strengthen basic education and expand learning opportunities for children and young people in Banadir Region, as one of the key foundations for building human capital in Somalia. The regular administration of examinations and assessment of their results also provide education authorities with an opportunity to identify levels of academic achievement and determine areas requiring further support and development, whether in curricula, teacher performance or school environments. Systematic use of assessment results can help improve education quality and ensure that students move to higher levels of education with stronger academic preparation.<\/p>\n

Basic education is a fundamental pillar for building human capital and strengthening opportunities for sustainable development in Somalia, while Grade Eight examinations are particularly important as a transitional stage for assessing students\u2019 readiness to move into secondary education. Although the number of students who passed this year\u2019s examinations is high, supporting students facing academic difficulties remains an important part of improving education quality and ensuring that no student is left behind.
