MOGADISHU —\u00a0<\/strong>Qatar Charity has launched a new health plan in Mogadishu featuring 48 medical projects and programmes to be implemented during 2026 and 2027, aimed at strengthening healthcare services and expanding access to curative and preventive care for the most vulnerable groups across Somalia. The initiative is part of broader humanitarian and development efforts designed to support the health sector, improve access to medical services, and assist low-income families and patients facing difficulties in obtaining necessary care.<\/p>\n

The plan includes nine major health programmes expected to benefit approximately 49,834 people from different segments of society, including patients, vulnerable families, and individuals requiring specialized medical interventions. The projects focus on key areas such as combating malnutrition, restoring eyesight and preventing blindness, providing medicines and medical supplies, treating chronic diseases, performing pediatric heart surgeries, supporting dialysis patients, and delivering medical services for complex health conditions.<\/p>\n

The projects were announced during an official event in Mogadishu attended by health sector officials and representatives of Qatar Charity. Participants emphasized the importance of strengthening cooperation between the Somali government and humanitarian and development organizations to support the advancement of the national health system. They noted that effective health partnerships contribute to expanding medical services and improving the ability of health institutions to respond to growing needs across different regions.<\/p>\n

The new initiatives are designed to reach broad segments of society, with the malnutrition programme representing one of the major components of the plan, targeting approximately 21,672 beneficiaries. Meanwhile, the \u201cAbsar\u201d programme will provide eye care and vision restoration services to around 10,000 people. The plan also includes the provision of medicines, medical equipment, and specialized treatment services, reflecting an integrated approach that combines treatment, prevention, and support for vulnerable groups.<\/p>\n

Qatar Charity reaffirmed its continued commitment to supporting Somalia\u2019s health sector in cooperation with the Ministry of Health and Social Care and local and international partners. The organization stated that these projects are part of wider efforts to advance health development and improve access to sustainable services that meet community needs. The initiative also represents continued support for affected populations and efforts to strengthen the health system\u2019s ability to address current and future challenges.<\/p>\n

Somalia\u2019s health sector continues to face major challenges, including limited medical resources, shortages in specialized services, and increasing demand for healthcare in many areas.
